Unsolved Homicides
District Attorney Mark G. Mastroianni has dedicated resources in his office
for the review of homicides that remain unsolved in Hampden County.
In an effort to bring renewed attention to these cases and to keep the
investigations moving forward, information is being provided to the general
public through this web page. The District Attorney is committed to making
every effort to bring resolution to these cases and closure to the families of
the homicide victims. This page will be updated periodically with additional
unsolved cases.

Cases
Christine Hurlburt
On October 6, 1968, Christine Hurlburt was reported missing after not returning home from a dance at the Mountain Park Ballroom the night before. Her body was found in the Mountain Park area on October 12, 1968.

Lisa DaSilva
On April 21, 1991, 21 year old Lisa DaSilva was found in her bed strangled on Tracy Street in Springfield, MA after a concerned relative hadn’t heard from her and contacted police.

Lisa Ziegert
On April 15, 1992, 24 year old Lisa Ziegert was kidnapped from her job at an Agawam gift shop on Walnut Street Extension. Four days later, on Easter Sunday, a passerby found her body in a stretch of woods off Suffield Street.

John Doe (Southwick, MA)
On May 16, 1992, a human skull and human bones were discovered in a wooded area on the west side of North Longyard Road in Southwick, MA. The profile of these remains indicates that the victim was a Caucasian male between 30 and 50 years of age, who sustained trauma to the face.

Holly Piirainen
In 1993, 10-year-old Holly Piirainen disappeared after taking a walk to see collie puppies near her grandmother’s Sturbridge summer home. Two and a half months later, On October 23, 1993, her remains were found in Brimfield by a hunter in the woods.

Tammy Marie Lynds
On July 22, 1994, 15 year old Tammy Marie Lynds was reported missing by her parents. Her body was found on November 4, 1994 on Fox Road in Springfield, MA.

Kaseem Coleman
On January 13, 1995, 20 year old Kaseem Coleman was shot on Bay Street in Springfield, MA. Coleman was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he died of a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Celestina Perez
Celestina Perez, 24, was found strangled and beaten June 2, 1995, in Gurdon Bill Park in Springfield, MA.

Jane Doe (Tolland, MA)
On October 6, 1995, Massachusetts State Police began conducting an investigation into the homicide of an unidentified female found outside the entrance of the Tolland State Forest in Tolland, MA. The victim had been shot. The victim was determined to be 30-45 years of age, 5’2” to 5’5” tall. She weighed approximately 120-130 lbs.

Luis Garcia “Tun-Tun”
On April 13, 2002 sixteen year old Luis Garcia was shot and killed near the corner of High and Hampshire Streets in Holyoke, MA.

Louis White
Louis L. White was shot in the neck on Oct. 6, 2002, while walking along a sidewalk on Andrew Street in Springfield, MA. He had been on life support since the day of the shooting and, in 2011, died as a result of his injuries.

Jammion Freeman “JD”
On May 12, 2005, 25 year old Jammion Freeman was killed on Main Street in the North End of Springfield. Freeman died of head trauma.

Francine Jiles
On January 9, 2007, the body of 48 year old Francine Jiles was discovered in her second floor apartment at 10 Federal Court apartment in Springfield, MA.

Eric Newkirk
On September 23, 2007, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Eric R. Newkirk, 44, was shot and killed in front of his home located at 88 Monmouth Street, Springfield.

Angelo Daniels
On February 1, 2008, 45 year old Angelo Daniels was fatally shot on Leyfred Terrace in Springfield, MA. A male was reported running from the scene.

Santino Kuang
On September 24, 2008, Santino Kuang was found stabbed to death in the woods in the area of 77 Armory Street in Springfield. Mr. Kuang was discovered by passersby who flagged for the help of a nearby ambulance. Springfield Police were then called to the scene.

Julian Cartie
On February 22, 2009, 25 year old Julian Cartie was fatally shot on the street in front of the MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA after an altercation with a man, believed to be in a blue Hyundai or Honda sedan. The gunman is described as a Hispanic male around age 20, clean-shaven with a slight build.

Jose Torres
On April 4, 2009, at approximately 2:45 a.m. Jose Torres was found shot to death near his home at 4 Darwell St, Springfield, MA. It was reported that Torres was arguing with an individual at a party, who then followed him outside and shot him several times.

Hasson Duncan
On July 21, 2009, 25 year old Hasson Duncan was shot to death on Quincy Street in Springfield, MA. Duncan was getting into a car when two men approached the car and opened fire.

On February 19, 2010, Lashawn Weldon was found dead in her apartment at 159 Tyler Street in Springfield.

Rafael Montanez
Rafael Montanez, 16, of Alderman Street, Springfield, MA was killed on May 1, 2010 at approximately 10 P.M. near 57 Allendale, Springfield. Detectives believe a shootout began with a dispute between two rival gangs.

Timothy Knighton
Timothy Knighton was shot to death August 6, 2010 while he sat in a car in the parking lot of 86-92 Oak Street, Springfield, MA. Witnesses told police that Knighton was with some friends in a parked car on Oak Street when an unknown man approached and opened fire.

Darin Negron
On January 27, 2011, 23 year old Darin Negron was shot outside 96 Melrose
Street in Springfield, MA.

On February 12, 2011, 24 year old Pedro Osorio was found dead outside 40
James Street in Springfield, MA. Osorio was shot and thrown from an older
minivan.

Raul Vera
On July 3, 2011, 38 year old Raul Vera was shot in front of 66 Lincoln
Street in Springfield.

Doris Alzak
On July 12, 2011, 81 year old Doris Alzak was found dead in her home at 100
Phillips Avenue in Springfield, after sanitation workers reported a fire at her
home.

Jonathan Tallaj UPDATE 2012 - THREE ARRESTS MADE
On August 23, 2011, 25 year old Jonathan Tallaj was shot and killed in the
driveway of 90 Wilmont Street, Springfield, MA.

Carmen Melendez
On August 24, 2011, 16 year old Carmen Melendez was shot and killed in a
drive-by shooting while in a parking lot on the corner of State and Andrews
Streets in Springfield MA.

Amanda Plasse
On August 26, 2011, 20 year old Amanda Plasse was found dead in her apartment at 73 School Street, Chicopee, MA. At the time of her death, Plasse was employed at the Friendly's on Memorial Drive in Chicopee.

Devada Wannamaker
On October 16, 2011, 23 year old Devada Wannamaker was found shot in an alleyway near Club Illusion, 284 Worthington St. in Sprinfield, MA.

On October 24, 2011, 30 year old Victor Mercedes was shot and killed in the driveway of 93 Garfield Street, Springfield, MA.

Alfred Pellot Lopez
On February 23, 2012 police were summoned to 17 Whittier St. shortly before 10 p.m. and found Alfred Pellot Lopez with a gunshot wound to the head near a rear walkway of the property. He later died at Baystate Medical Hospital.

Charles Gamache
On March 27, 2012, fifty-four-year old Charles Gamache, of 42 Pioneer Way was found fatally stabbed just before 10 p.m. inside his home at the Boston Road Mobile Home Park
